About the firm
We've sat in your seat. That's what makes the difference.
BuiltTech Strategy Group was founded on a simple premise: construction firms deserve technology advisors who understand the industry from the inside — not consultants learning on your dime.
Built from the field up.
Most technology consultants come from the software side. They understand platforms, integrations, and implementation methodology. What they often lack is firsthand experience running technology inside a construction business — managing the competing demands of the field, the office, and the executive team.
BuiltTech Strategy Group was founded to close that gap. We bring together deep construction industry knowledge and executive-level technology leadership to help firms make smarter, faster, and more confident technology decisions.
Our clients range from regional specialty contractors to large general contractors and private equity-backed construction platforms. What they share is a need for strategic clarity — and a partner who can translate complex technology decisions into business outcomes.
Strategic
We think at the business level first. Every technology recommendation is grounded in your firm's goals, competitive position, and operational realities — not vendor roadmaps.
Practical
We've implemented the systems we advise on. Our recommendations are built for how construction firms actually work — not theoretical frameworks that fall apart in the field.
Trusted
We operate as a true partner to our clients — with full transparency, no vendor conflicts of interest, and a commitment to your firm's long-term success over any single engagement.
Impactful
We measure success by outcomes, not deliverables. Our engagements are designed to produce decisions, clarity, and momentum — not reports that sit on a shelf.
Rob Spencer
Founder & Managing Partner
Rob Spencer is a construction technology executive with a career built inside the industry — not consulting to it from the outside. As a Chief Information Officer for construction firms, he has led the full spectrum of enterprise technology: ERP implementations, digital transformation programs, cybersecurity initiatives, data strategy, and the operational technology that keeps projects running in the field.
Before founding BuiltTech Strategy Group, Rob held CIO and senior technology leadership roles across general contracting and specialty trade organizations. He has navigated the complexity of construction firsthand — managing competing demands from the field, the office, ownership, and the back office — and brings that operational credibility to every engagement.
Rob advises firm leaders, ownership groups, and private equity sponsors on technology strategy, system selection, process improvement, digital adoption, M&A due diligence, and post-merger integration. His counsel is direct, grounded in how construction businesses actually operate, and focused on decisions that move the business forward.
